This Holy Cave attracts millions of devotees every year. The management and administration of the Yatra are done by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB). The Board was set up in August 1986 under the provisions of “The Jammu and Kashmir Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Act, 1988” (Act No. XVII of 1988). Ever since the Board was formed, it has undertaken a number of developmental activities in its respective surroundings. One of the infrastructural developments executed by the board was Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) which was established under “The Jammu and Kashmir Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University Act, 1999”.
